Hibbing/Chisholm boy’s hockey falls in State Class A third place matchup against Orono
After a close loss to East Grand Forks 7-5 on Friday, #1 Hibbing/Chisholm boy’s hockey dropped into the third-place matchup against #6 Orono set for Saturday, March 8th. Orono would take the third-place title with a 5-1 win over the Bluejackets.
Scoring wouldn’t start until late into the second period when Orono’s Brenner Kanive would take a shot from the circle to put the Spartans on the board. It would only take seconds for the Spartans to put themselves up 2-0 with a backhanded shot from Talan Reuter.
Just over two minutes into the third period, Orono would extend their lead to 3-0 with a backhanded shot from Rory Kvern on the power-play. The Bluejackets respond quickly with a deep-shot goal from Blake Riccio to makes things a two-point game. Kvern strikes again on another power play to bring the score to 4-1 in favor of the Spartans. Orono’s Trey Landa seals the game, taking a pass from Ethan Pagel, sinking it the back of the net.
Hibbing/Chisholm ends their season with a 20-11 record and take home the State Class A fourth-place title for the 2024-25 season.
