Cooper’s last second goal lifts Superior girl’s hockey past Hudson, into state title game
On Thursday the second seeded Superior/Northwestern girl’s hockey team took down third seeded Hudson 3-2 in the state tournament semifinals at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Superior’s Autumn Cooper scored short-handed with 12 seconds left in the game breaking a 2-2 tie and lifting the Spartans into the state championship game.
The Spartans had the first say in the first period with an Isabella Thompson goal. Hudson tied it up in the second period, then took the 2-1 lead early in the third.
Makaela Reinke tied the game 2-2 for Superior on a power-play, then Cooper sealed the deal for the Spartans.
Superior is in their first state tournament since 2006 and last won the state crown in 2005.
The Spartans (21-5) will face top-seeded De Pere Co-op (24-3) for the state championship Saturday at 12:10 p.m. For more state info, Click Here.
