Proctor/Hermantown can’t overcome late goals, fall to Holy Angels in Class A state quarterfinals

Proctor/Hermantown can't overcome late goals, fall to Holy Angels in Class A state quarterfinals

Seeking revenge from last year’s State quarterfinal overtime heartbreaker against eventual champions Warroad, the Proctor/Hermantown girls hockey team made their return to the state tournament Wednesday. However, the No. 5 Mirage would fall 2-0 to the No. 4 Academy of Holy Angels in the night’s final Class A quarterfinal at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The first two periods would go scoreless. But just 47 seconds into the third the Stars’ Marissa Jung scored to break the Holy Angels onto the board. Halfway through the third Jung would score her second of the night, sealing the 2-0 win for the Holy Angels. The Mirage put 34 shots on goal, but all were blocked by goaltender Zoe Rimstad. Netminder Neelah McLeod made 22 saves in net for Proctor/Hermantown.

The Mirage entered the game on a six game unbeaten streak, with their most recent win coming in the Section 7A championship over Rock Ridge, 6-1.

Now 20-7-1 Proctor/Hermantown next battles River Lakes in the Consolation semifinals Thursday at 3 p.m. at TRIA Rink. For the full Class A bracket, Click here.
