This holiday week is providing the Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) football team some rest.
Following their state semifinal win last Thursday over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 36-15, the Rangers have over a two week break to prepare for their first title game since 1972 on December 3.
Head Coach Dan Zubich, now in his 14th year with the program, said the opportunity to play in the 9-Man championship is exciting.
“Everybody is really excited I mean obviously 50 years. We’ve been working on this for a little while now since 2018 when we first made it to the semifinals. Then we saw what it took to make it to the championship, and hopefully win the whole thing.”
He added the team has really stepped up the state challenge and their community has had their backs the whole way.
The 12-0 Rangers’ title foe will be fellow undefeated 13-0 Spring Grove, a team Zubich has scouted before.
“I actually went down there in 2016 and watched them play because I heard they were a spread team. The southern half was really starting to dominate in 9-Man so I wanted to adapt what was going on down there, and we use a lot of the same formations they do. The biggest difference I’d say is they’re a little heavier than us on the line and their receivers are definitely taller.”
MIB’s title fight is Saturday, December 3 with kickoff set for 10:03 a.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. For the bracket, Click Here.
