Michael Koppy stopped 6.5 miles short of finishing Arrowhead 135

On Wednesday afternoon, Hermantown native Michael Koppy came within 6.5 miles of the finish line of the Arrowhead 135, but had to drop out due to intense back pain according to the Duluth News Tribune.

The Arrowhead 135 is a 135 mile ultramarathon that runs from International Falls to Tower. Participants can go on foot, ski or bicycle.

Koppy choose to go on foot, and had to carry extensive supplies with him throughout the race that began on Monday. At 74-years-old he would have become the oldest person to finish the race.
