Minnesota Sweeps Wisconsin at DAYBA Border Battle All-Star Basketball Games

Minnesota Sweeps Wisconsin at DAYBA Border Battle All-Star Basketball Games

On Tuesday, the stars were out at UMD’s Romano Gymnasium, as the Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association (DAYBA) held their 17th annual Border Battle All Star Game. The Minnesota girls beat the Wisconsin girls 96-64, while the Minnesota boys won 112-98 over Wisconsin.

For the Minnesota girls, Regan Juenemann of Crosby-Ironton and formerly Duluth Marshall, took home the MVP award after leading the game in scoring.

On the boys side, Nevis’ Alex Lester was named the MVP, as his defensive presence and offensive firepower led the boys to the 14 point win.

Before the games, the boys and girls team hit the court to practice, and also spoke about their gratitude and excitement for the upcoming game.

“I mean I think it’s such an honor to be named an All-Star especially Minnesota against Wisconsin, and being picked is honestly an honor. All glory to God for getting us here and giving us this opportunity to play again,” said Rock Ridge senior Anna Westby.

“I would say the same thing, it’s it’s an incredible opportunity to be here and to get this chance. I mean, I’ve even thought about it since I was younger, seeing people playing this All-Star game and thinking of myself in this game as well,” said Proctor senior Lily Smith.

“It’s always something you want to do and put in the work and it does turn into an expectation,” said Cherry senior Carson Brown.
