The battle for the Section 7A Softball Championship took place at Braun Park in Cloquet Thursday between #1 seed Moose Lake/Willow River, last year’s state runners-up, and #4 Silver Bay.
Rebels Sandra Ribich ripped one to centerfield allowing Hallie Klauv to score for the first run of the game.
The Rebels went on to take on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with Ribich and Mackenzie Hoffman to win the game 5-0 and become back-to-back Section 7A champions.
The team shared how excited they were for the win and what’s to come next. “Well, we were there last year, and we performed last year. We’re hoping to get as far as we did if not even a lot further than we did last year without jinxing it,” said Head Coach Kelly Goeb.
Senior pitchers Sarah Christy and Alexis Hoffman added what’s to come when they head to state. “I think it’s going to be an advantage just because we know some of the teams that are going to be down there, and we know the atmosphere that we had last year.”
“I think it’s pushed us to do better than last year because we made it to the championship, and our end goal is to be the champion,” Hoffman added.
The state softball tournament runs June 8-9 at Caswell Park in Mankato.
