Mountain Iron-Buhl girls hoops bowl down Walker-Hackensack-Akeley to advance to Class A state semifinals
On Thursday, the No. 2 Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) girls basketball team defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 71-36 in the Class A state quarterfinals at Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis. The defending Class A state champion Rangers are making their fourth straight state tournament appearance.
MIB outshot the Wolves 37-15 in the first half, and 34-21 in the second half. The Rangers’ Jordan Zubich led the game scoring 20 points, while Anna Neyens added 18 points.
MIB advances to the state semifinals Friday at 2 p.m. at Williams Arena. They will play No. 3 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart who beat Fosston 72-35.

Also on Thursday, Rock Ridge girls basketball won their Class AAA consolation semifinal over Totino-Grace 55-39. They’ll play St. Peter in the consolation championship game Friday at 4 p.m. at Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University in Saint Paul.
