Mountain Iron-Buhl girls basketball wins semifinal, secures spot in Class A state championship
On Friday, the second seeded Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) girls basketball team secured their spot in the Class A state championship game defeating No. 3 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 69-50 in the semifinals at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
The Rangers outshot the Mustangs 40-31 in the first half, and 29-19 in the second half. MIB’s Jordan Zubich led the game with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Hali Savela added 13 points and Suzy Aubrey had 11 points for the Rangers. Lily Hubin led the Mustangs with 18 points.
The Rangers will now get a shot at earning back-to-back state titles. No. 2 MIB (29-3) will face No. 1 Goodhue (27-5) in the Class A championship game Saturday at 12 p.m. at Williams Arena. For the full Class A bracket, Click Here.
MIB and Goodhue met once in the regular season, with the Rangers falling 67-62 on December 29.
In Class AAA, the Rock Ridge girls basketball team fell in the consolation championship to St. Peter 61-35. Anna Westby led the Wolverines with 21 points. Rock Ridge finishes their season 27-5. For the full Class AAA bracket, Click Here.
