NCHC discusses addition of ASU at annual Media Day

On Wednesday the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) hosted their annual Media Day at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Commissioner Heather Weems opened up the day providing the State of the Conference Address, first touching on the conferences new program Arizona State University (ASU).
“From a strategic perspective, and given the changing landscape, the addition of the Sun Devils provides the NCHC with greater membership stability and gives our institutions a foothold in the growing recruiting markets of the West Coast, Phoenix, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and even Seattle and Vancouver.”
The NCHC is now home to nine men’s hockey teams; Colorado College, Miami University (OH), University of North Dakota, St. Cloud State University, Denver University, University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), University of Nebraska Omaha, Western Michigan University, and now ASU.
Releasing their Preseason Poll Tuesday UMD was picked to finish fifth. The Bulldogs closed out 2022-2023 with a 10-14 record in NCHC play.
They open this season hosting Michigan Tech October 7. UMD’s NCHC opener is November 11 at home against North Dakota.
