No. 15 UWS men's hockey topples Northland to claim 9th straight win

The 15th ranked University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s hockey team took down Northland College 7-1 Wednesday night extending their win streak to nine.

Seven different scorers landed on the score sheet for the Yellowjackets. Chris Ishmael and Ikki Kogawa opened it up in the first to lead 2-0 after one. Gavin Watt scored early in the second, then Matt Francois added a short-handed goal to give UWS a 4-0 lead. That’s when Northland’s Nolan Christy would capitalize on the power play to trail 4-1. However, Kade Shea put one more on the board for UWS to lead 5-1 after the second. In the third, Austin Paul scored, then Carson Riddle added a power play goal for the 7-1 Yellowjacket victory.

In net, Jack Boschert made 10 saves for UWS, while Andrew Yocum made 34 for the Lumberjacks.

UWS improves to 13-3-1 overall and 6-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. UWS next hosts UW-River Falls Friday, January 24 at 7:05 p.m. Northland (0-15) is back this Friday, Jan. 17 visiting Saint Mary’s University.
