No. 7 UMD women focused on structured, detailed hockey for Mankato series
Holding down the fort this weekend at AMSOIL Arena will be the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team.
Last weekend they suffered a sweep at the hands of second ranked Wisconsin, falling 2-1 Friday then 5-4 Saturday. While both games ended as one goal decisions, UMD had held a 4-1 lead after the second period in game two.
UMD head coach Maura Crowell shared in a press conference Wednesday how the team is learning from that experience.
“We’re focusing on what we do well, how we can stick to that game plan when the pressure goes up, and just digging into our habits. That’s always in our DNA is playing good, structured hockey. Doing the little things right, stopping on pucks, playing good defense, getting the lines, getting pucks deep, winning face offs. Those simple things add up to a lot,” Crowell said.
Friday UMD (13-11-2) hosts Minnesota State University-Mankato (10-17) at 6 p.m. for Cram the Am night. Tickets are only $1.
Puck drop Saturday is 2 p.m. against the Mavericks. UMD swept Mankato on the road in October winning 3-1 then 4-1.
