No. 7 UMD women prepare for rematch with St. Cloud in WCHA quarterfinals
Gabbie Hughes’ first season with the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team in 2018-2019 ended with UMD finishing with a 15-16-4 overall record.
Now a graduate forward Hughes has witnessed and helped the program grow, which currently boasts a 23-8-3 record heading into the WCHA quarterfinals. The seventh ranked Bulldogs even earned home ice advantage over St. Cloud State University.
“For my class personally we’re hungry. Came in as freshmen not having a sniff at a national championship, to continuing to build that every year and we have that drive. I think we’re all super excited and know what we’re capable of and we’re ready to show it,” Hughes said.
UMD tied 1-1 winning the shootout, then shut out the Huskies 2-0, in their series in Duluth two weekends ago.
The best-of-three playoff series begins Friday at 3 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena. Saturday’s match is set for 5 p.m. and, if need be, Sunday’s game will be at 3 p.m.
