No. 8 UMD women’s hockey closing out regular season at No. 4 Minnesota
The eighth ranked University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team closes out their regular season slate this weekend paying the fourth ranked University of Minnesota Gophers a visit. The Bulldogs are seeking revenge after falling 3-1 to the Gophers twice in November in Duluth.
“I believe it was game one where we really were dominating play. We had plenty of opportunities on the power play. It felt early watching it back to seeing some of our mistakes, but also pretty encouraging too with what we were able to do,” UMD head coach Maura Crowell said.
“I think in the beginning it was just a lot of figuring out. All of our units have pretty much changed entirely. So just building that confidence around each other and around each unit has been huge, and it’s been paying off for us in these last couple of weeks especially,” graduate forward Mannon McMahon said.
The rivalry series will also be a special teams showdown. The Bulldogs enter with a WCHA-leading penalty kill of 91.1, while the Gophers boast the NCAA’s top power-play with a 38.1 conversion rate.
Puck drop at Ridder Arena Friday is at 6 p.m., then Satuday at 2 p.m. in Minneapolis.
