On Saturday the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team will drop the puck on their 2023 slate.
Despite not skating in a game since December 10 the eighth ranked Bulldogs are excited to come back to a top ranked test paying second ranked Wisconsin a visit.
The Badgers and Bulldogs split their early season meeting at AMSOIL Arena in October. Since then Wisconsin has only dropped one game and UMD has dropped just three.
“I like starting with a top five opponent, I think that keeps you honest over break,” UMD head coach Maura Crowell said. “It’s like do or die time now this second semester, and I think that’s awesome. That’s when our team really plays their best.”
Also, this upcoming series at Wisconsin’s Labahn Arena is sold out.
“Just knowing that all these people are coming to watch such a good matchup and see how far women’s hockey has come, I think it really just excites us,” senior forward Mannon McMahon said. “It doesn’t make us nervous or anything, so we’re really excited to be back at Labahn.”
Puck drop Saturday is set for 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
