Northwood/Solon Springs baseball wins way into State title game
The Northwood/Solon Springs baseball team made history twice on Tuesday. The No. 3 Green Eagles appeared in their first-ever state tournament, then won their first game at state defeating No. 2 Johnson Creek 7-0 in the WIAA Division 4 semifinals held in Grand Chute, Wisconsin.
Northwood/Solon Springs got out to an early lead scoring two runs in the first inning, including one hit by Abe Ahlberg that drove in Isaiah Ahlberg. In the third inning they added two more runs, capped off by a Dylan Taggart RBI to make it 4-0. In the sixth Jared Schultz hit a single to bring their lead to 7-0.
Schultz would record the final out from the mound. Fellow pitcher Abe Ahlberg helped shut down the Bluejays’ bats throwing 6.2 innings allowing zero runs.
Northwood/Solon Springs (19-1) now advances to the Division 4 state championship game. They will face No. 1 Eleva-Strum (22-8) Thursday at 9 a.m. in Grand Chute. For the state tournament hub, Click here.
