Pair of Bulldogs prep for former teammates as UMD women skate to Bemidji
The No. 8 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team hits the road again this weekend. Riding their series sweep at Minnesota State University-Mankato last weekend, the Bulldogs now prepare open another WCHA trip visiting Bemidji State University (BSU).
It’s a homecoming of sorts for a pair of Bulldogs. Reece Hunt is a graduate transfer from Bemidji, having tallied 59 points in four seasons with the Beavers.
“It’s going to be interesting being on the visitor side. But again, it’s just a hockey game. I’m just trying to think hockey, not let distractions get to me. It’s going to be hard, but again good to see some people,” Hunt said.
Also, current UMD assistant coach Emma Sobieck is a former Beaver captain and spent three seasons on their coaching staff before joining Maura Crowell’s.
“I think it’s always an asset when you have people in the locker room that have played in another program. Just to give you a sense for details, style of play, what they’re trying to do in certain situations. Obviously, we know them really well too,” Crowell said.
Puck drop in Bemidji is 3 p.m. on Friday at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
