Prep Boys Hockey: Hermantown downs Denfeld in high scoring affair, Duluth East bests Andover in OT
In prep boys hockey on Tuesday, Hermantown defeated Duluth Denfeld 5-3, while Duluth East bested Andover 3-2 in overtime.
At the Hermantown Hockey Arena, the Hunters scored quick and early to put the Hawks in a 3-1 hole late in the first period. Hermantown was able to tie it up 3-3 before the end of the first, then the second period went scoreless. Hermantown scored twice more in the third to secure the 5-3 comeback win. River Freeman led the Hawks with two goals and one assist, while Bradford Skytta contributed one goal and two assists. Netminder Evan Sundell made 25 saves. Denfeld’s Tristin Nephew scored two goals with one assist, while Nolan Harju scored their first goal. Liam Fish made 54 saves in net for the Hunters.

At the Essentia Duluth Heritage Center, Duluth East held off Andover 3-2 in overtime. The Greyhounds’ Timothy Balthazor scored just three minutes into the game, with Keaton Coe tying it in the first for the Huskies. In the second, Fin Kuzmuk took back the lead for Duluth, but William Thackeray made it 2-2 before the third. After a scoreless third forced OT, Duluth earned a power play and Kyle Peterson sealed the deal just two minutes in. Nolan Nygaard made 27 saves for the Greyhounds, while Cash Cruitt made 26 for Andover.
