State Football: Deer River and Moose Lake/Willow River fall in quarterfinals
On Friday, No. 3 Deer River football fell in the Class A state tournament quarterfinals against undefeated No. 2 Mahnomen/Waubun 14-6 at Becker High School.
In the first quarter, Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbird’s Easton Bevins scored first, and with a two-point conversion they lead 8-0. In the second, Moose Lake/Willow River’s Caiden Schjenkin returned the favor to trail 8-6. In the fourth quarter, the Thunderbird’s extended their lead with a touchdown by Blake Mcmullen.
Mahnomen/Waubun wins 14-6. Deer River ends their season with a 9-2 record.
In the Class AA quarterfinals, No. 4 Moose Lake/Willow River fell to undefeated No. 1 Kimball 38-0 at Brainerd High School. The Rebels end their season with a 9-3 record.
