Prep girl’s basketball: Cloquet heads to Section 7AAA championship, MIB, Ely, and Duluth Marshall advance
There was plenty of girl’s basketball action in the Section 7A, 7AA, and 7AAA tournaments on Saturday.
Starting in Section 7AAA, Cloquet defeated Grand Rapids 74-60.
After trailing by five at halftime, Cloquet exploded on the offensive end and put up 50 points to outlast Grand Rapids.
The Lumberjacks now advance to the championship to face Rock Ridge on Thursday.
In the Section 7AA tournament, Duluth Marshall handled Mesabi East, 88-70.
The Hilltoppers put up 44 points in each half, stifling Mesabi East from the opening tip off.
Duluth Marshall advances to the semifinals to face Crosby-Ironton on Wednesday.
In the Section 7A tournament, Mountain Iron-Buhl defeated Bigfork 79-44, while Ely took care of Chisholm, winning 64-49.
Both MIB and Ely were beneficiaries of the same game plan, which was getting out to an early lead and never allowing their opponents to come back into the game.
Both teams advance to the semifinals on opposite sides of the bracket.
Ely will face Cromwell-Wright on Wednesday while MIB will look to defeat South Ridge on Wednesday as well.
