Prep Girls Basketball: MIB extends win streak, Chisholm and Cloquet stay perfect
In prep girls basketball on Friday, Mountain Iron-Buhl would extend their win streak to seven while Chisholm and Cloquet protected their perfect records.
On the road Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) would take down South Ridge 68-37 in a rematch of last season’s Section 7A semifinals. The Rangers’ Jordan Zubich led the game scoring 30 points. MIB improves to 8-1 and will search for their eighth straight win Monday visiting Esko at 7:15pm. Suffering their first loss South Ridge now sits 5-1 and next hosts Barnum Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Visiting Duluth Denfeld Chisholm would earn a 63-27 victory improving to 5-0. Chisholm’s Tressa Baumgard led the game with 28 points, while Maurissa Hendricks led Denfeld with nine. The Bluestreaks (5-0) next visit Ely Monday at 7:15 p.m. Denfeld (1-5) is back in action December 27 hosting Barnum.
At home Cloquet held off previously once-beaten Pine City 60-44 to improve to 6-0. Lelani Fonoti and Lauren Hughes led the Lumberjacks scoring 16 points each. Pine City’s (5-2) Karly Jusczak led the game with 24 points. Cloquet (6-0) next hosts Hermantown Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
