Prep girl’s hockey: #2 Proctor/Hermantown, #1 Duluth Marshall punch tickets to 7A championship
On Saturday, the #2 Proctor/Hermantown Mirage blanked #3 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, 6-0, while #1 Duluth Marshall handled business against #4 Moose Lake Area, 5-1.
The Mirage were off to a hot start thanks to Jane Eckstrom’s two goals in the first period.
In the second period, Grace Nichols scored once and Izy Fairchild scored twice to give the Mirage a 5-0 advantage.
Mya Gunderson officially put the game away with a goal in the third period, as the Mirage awaited the winner of the next game.
In that game, the Hilltoppers didn’t seem to have any rust after their bye, as Ilsa Lindaman scored twice and Nina Thorson once to give the Hilltoppers an early 3-0 advantage.
Avery Lian scored in the second period for a 4-0 lead, and Sarah Stauber scored in the third to extend the lead to 5-1.
Moose Lake Area’s Jorja Jusczak scored to cut the deficit to 5-1, but it was too little too late.
The Hilltoppers and Mirage will face off on Wednesday for the Section 7A championship.
