Prep Girls Soccer: Cloquet/Carlton draws in season opener; Hermantown falls to Zimmerman

The Cloquet/Carlton girl’s soccer team returns just two seniors from their fourth straight section title-winning team in 2022. Falling in the state quarterfinals, the Lumberjacks would begin their quest to return to tournament action as they played in their season opener Friday afternoon hosting St. Francis at Cloquet’s Hilltop Park.
The Fighting Saints’ Addison Randall tried to score from a kick from her right, but Lumberjacks keeper Rylee Senich got up high and batted the ball.
The Lumberjacks looked to make their attempt at a goal Lauren Hughes ripped one to the net, but it hit the crossbar.
The game went head to head with the result of 0-0. Lumberjacks will be back on the pitch on the road against Two Rivers on Saturday, August 26th at 1 p.m.
Over in Hermantown, the Hawks opened their season hosting Zimmerman.
The Thunders scored first with a shot on goal by Isabella Felegy. The Hawks got themselves on the scoreboard by Brook Judnick with the assist of Mya Gunderson.
Through a hard-fought game, the Hawks fell in this one, 2-1. They will get a chance to get their first win of the season when they host Duluth Marshall on Tuesday, August 29th, at 5:30 p.m.
