Prep hockey: Proctor & Hermantown boy’s win big, Mirage stage dramatic comeback
There was plenty of great hockey on Tuesday night, as Proctor boy’s hockey bested Ely 9-1, Hermantown defeated Superior 6-0, and the Proctor/Hermantown Mirage erased a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3, snapping the Hilltoppers 18 game winning streak.
Ely scored first against Proctor, as Drew Marolt beat AJ Reyelts to put Ely up 1-0, but Proctor wouldn’t take kindly to that, scoring nine straight goals.
Dylan Denzler, Austin Bryant, and Cooper Johnson led the way for Proctor with two goals each, while Blaine Boysen, Dylan Davidson, and Wyatt Mineheine all added one of their own.
Proctor takes on Tartan on Saturday while Ely faces Bagley/Fosston.
Hermantown took it to Superior, as Dane Callaway did his job in goal, shutting out the Spartans.
Hermantown is back in action against St. Thomas Academy on Friday, and Superior will look to bounce back against Hibbing on Thursday.
Lastly, in the most dramatic game of the night, the Proctor/Hermantown Mirage completed a massive comeback to knock off Duluth Marshall.
After two goals in the first period by Ilsa Lindaman, the Hilltoppers added another by Nina Thorson to go up 3-0.
After that though, the Hilltoppers offense stalled, and the Mirage kicked theirs into high gear. Hannah Graves, Mya Gunderson, and Jane Eckstrom all scored in the second period to knot the game up at 3-3.
It was Eckstrom who struck again for the Mirage in overtime, giving the Mirage the win and sending the Hilltoppers home with just their second loss of the season, their first since the second game of the year.
The Mirage will defend home ice against the Northern Stars on Saturday while Duluth Marshall faces Moose Lake Area on Thursday.
