Prep Hockey: Superior girl’s blanks Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, Grand Rapids overpowers Superior boy’s
Both Superior hockey teams were in action Tuesday night, as the Superior girl’s beat Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 4-0 while Grand Rapids boy’s hockey beat Superior, 5-2.
Superior and CEC spent the first period in a scoreless battle, but once Autumn Cooper found the back of the net for the Spartans, the scoring onslaught came.
The Spartans improve to 16-1 and will face Medford on Saturday, while CEC falls to 5-11 and will face the Duluth Northern Stars on Thursday.
Over at Siinto S. Wessman Arena, Grand Rapids used four straight goals to their advantage to complete the comeback on Superior.
Lucas Williams broke open the scoring for the Spartans, but before the end of the first period, Grand Rapids Xander Sheiman poked the puck in to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second period, Tyler Olson scored to give the Spartans the advantage. But from then on, it was all Grand Rapids.
Nolan Svatos, Kyler Miller, Bauer Murphy, and Nathan Garski all scored for the Thunderhawks in the third period, putting the game away.
Grand Rapids improves to 8-6 and faces Moorhead on Saturday while Superior will look to bounce back against Eau Claire North on Friday.
