Prep soccer: CEC earns first win, Hermantown downs Hibbing/Chisholm, and Grand Rapids settles for tie

On Tuesday, Cloquet/Esko/Carlton boys soccer defeated Duluth Marshall 5-1 in a battle of defending section champions, Hermantown protected home turf against Hibbing/Chisholm, winning 5-0, and Grand Rapids was held to a scoreless draw against Bemidji, 0-0.

The Lumberjacks started the game down a goal, thanks to Hilltoppers Foster Shultz goal just over six minutes in.

However, the Lumberjacks would turn up the heat, scoring two before the end of the half and adding three in the second half.

The Hilltoppers will look to bounce back against Mesabi East Area on Monday while the Lumberjacks turn to Hermantown on Thursday.

The Hawks had no problem with Hibbing/CHisholm, scoring four goals in the first half, and adding one in the second half.

Braeden Malkovich scored two goals, while Brennan Malmstrom. Hunter Nelson, and Cole Palokangas all net one of their own.

The Hawks face CEC on Thursday, while Hibbing/Chisholm takes on Mesabi East Area on Thursday.

For Grand Rapids, they put their 4-0 record on the line, but couldn’t find the back of the net, ending in a scoreless draw.

The Thunderhawks host Duluth Denfeld on Thursday.
