Prep soccer: Esko and Denfeld draw, Cloquet/Carlton and Grand Rapids pull off narrow victories
Monday was full of prep soccer action, as Esko girls soccer hit the road to Duluth Denfeld but drew a scoreless 0-0 tie, while Cloquet/Carlton defended home turf against Proctor, winning 1-0, and Grand Rapids took down Duluth Marshall 3-2.
At Denfeld, neither team could get too much offensive action going on, but Duluth Denfeld’s Cayley Larsen was a brick wall, stopping point blank shots all game long.
The Hunters take on Duluth East on Tuesday while Esko turns to face Cloquet/Carlton on Thursday.
Cloquet/Carlton needed just one goal on the night to take down Proctor, as in the first half Aubrey Pavlatos converted on a ball close to the net to give the Lumberjacks the lead. The Lumberjacks defense stood tall the rest of the night, not allowing a goal throughout the contest.
Cloquet/Carlton plays Esko on Thursday while Proctor faces Hermantown on Tuesday.
Grand Rapids and Duluth Marshall scored the most in any match today, as the 3-2 slugfest saw both teams finding the back of the net often.
The Thunderhawks end their regular season at 9-3, while Duluth Marshall takes on Hibbing/Chisholm on Thursday.
