Friday night lights are turning on across the Northland. Starting Friday, August 30 WDIO Sports will have the best highlights and all the scores from our local high school football games during Prep Sports Extra Fridays at 10:25 p.m.

Hermantown would kickoff their season taking down Proctor 72-0 to claim the Hammer Game trophy, now it its 74th year. Cloquet would open their first full season with their new turf and stadium hosting Two Harbors, kicking off their 120th season of football. However the Agates would come away with the 37-14 win. Deer River kicked off their 100th season with a last second touchdown to defeat Crosby-Ironton 30-24. In 9-man, Cromwell-Wright downed McGregor, making their return to varsity action after a year hiatus, 48-8.

In Wisconsin, Northwestern held off Somerset in overtime 36-28 to improve to 1-1 on the season.
