In prep volleyball on Thursday, Grand Rapids and Superior each earned wins in straight sets.

At Superior High School, the Spartans would defeat Northwestern 3-0. The victory came after Superior held a small ceremony to dedicate their new scoreboard in the gymnasium. It also marked the Spartans’ home opener after a long 12 game road stretch to open the season.

Superior (3-10) will next host Duluth Marshall Monday, September 9 at 7 p.m. Northwestern (1-5) will next host Rice Lake for their home opener Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

At Duluth Denfeld High School, Grand Rapids shut out the Hunters 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21). Grand Rapids improves to 3-0 on the season having yet to lose a single set. They’re back in action Saturday for the Wally Wakefield Invitational at Tartan High School.

Denfeld (2-6) next heads to Irondale High School Saturday for the Knights Invitational.
