Proctor softball eyes fourth straight Section 7AA title despite losing key seniors

Proctor softball has become a Northland staple. No matter the year, it seems like the Rails are always in the mix for the section title. Coming off their third straight section 7AA title, the quest for four will look a bit different.

“I think especially losing six seniors last year, it’s gonna take us getting used to playing with each other as one group, but I mean we can do it,” said Avery Kuras, a junior for the Rails.

“I think it’s just good to get in whenever you can and take as many reps and you know, just do anything you can to practice,” said Kaytlyn Hemming, a senior outfielder.

Although the senior leadership is quite thin, there are many things the Rails can do to put wins on the board this season.

“I think some strength is we’re all versatile players. We can play multiple positions, a lot of us can,” said Kuras.

“I think one of the harder things to do is getting back to normal because how many seniors we lost last year. I think we’re going to do really good once we get on base and with running and taking advantage of that,” said Ava Lind, a sophomore outfielder.

The Rails are slated to start their season this Thursday, with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch against Rock Ridge.
