On Wednesday WDIO reported that the Duluth Denfeld and Rock Ridge boy’s hockey will move up to Class AA next season.
The Hunter’s head coach Dale Jago spoke with WDIO’s Sports Director Alicia Tipcke on why the move is right for their program, that interview can be found HERE.
On Thursday the Rock Ridge Wolverines, now in their second season as a program, shared their perspective on the move with WDIO.
“The Iron Range deserves a good AA team that we can root for, and all those kids [are] looking forward to it,” head coach Ben Johnson shared. “If we never take that step to get there, we’ll just be kind of sitting complacent in 7A and not really pushing to the next level.”
“We found out today and I feel like we’re just excited,” junior forward Brant Tiedeman said at practice Thursday. “We’re kind of moving and we’re buzzing today.”
Tune-in to WDIO’s section hockey coverage in two weeks for an exclusive in-depth story on this move, the decision making process for both Denfeld and Rock Ridge, and what this means for the future of Section 7.
WDIO will host the Section 7A boy’s hockey semifinals Thursday, February 23 and the Section 7AA semifinals Saturday, February 25, as well as the section championship games March 1 (7A) and March 2 (7AA).
