Scott Sandelin speaks on 2023-2024 season, looks ahead to new additions
After a year in which many UMD fans would like to forget, head coach Scott Sandelin detailed his thoughts on the 2023-2024 campaign.
“There’s lots of things you learn,” said Sandelin. “You learn every year, winning and losing, right? You learn more about your players. You learn about yourself as a coach. You learn all about those things. I think everybody felt the same thing, right? When you don’t really feel like you have the answers to get it back on track, I think that’s hard for everybody. Never once during the year did I really worry about our guys working hard. But the mental part plays a big factor.”
In addition to Sandelin’s comments about the roller coaster that this past season was, he also talked about how excited he was for next years recruiting class to come in and add to the Bulldog culture.
“We’re going to look at the portal like we do. But we’re not going to build a team out of it. We’ll plug some holes with it. But I really like the kids we got coming. And I like the kids. We’re going to have a really good core coming back. And I’m not saying we’re going to go win a national championship. I love the kids that we have coming in. They’re going to be drivers. They’re good hockey players. It’s one of our best classes we’ve had in a long time, along with the guys we have coming back.”
