Sean Morgan steps down as head coach of Duluth FC
After five years, and four seasons, at the helm of Duluth FC Sean Morgan is stepping down as head coach.
Morgan confirmed his move to WDIO’s Alicia Tipcke Tuesday night. In a text message he stated, “I decided to step away from the coaching side at Duluth, tough decision but I believe it’s the right one for me and the family.”
Update on 09/11/2024: It was announced Wednesday morning that Morgan is taking over as the Director of Coaching for the Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club.
Morgan was named head coach of the BlueGreens in 2020. That season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He then went on to lead Duluth FC to a second place finish in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Midwest Region North Conference playoffs in 2021, 2022 and 2023. They had a breakout year in 2024 finishing in the NPSL National Semifinals.
Morgan also helped oversee the purchase of the team in 2022 by Olympic curling gold medalist John Shuster and local businessman Alex Giuliani. Previously, Morgan also served as an assistant coach for the College of St. Scholastica (CSS), his alma mater.
