State Bound: Superior girls hockey claims Sectional title over Hayward
On Saturday the top-seeded Superior girl’s hockey team clinched the Sectional 1 title and a state tournament berth taking down third-seeded Hayward in a high scoring affair 7-5 at the Spooner Civic Center.
It was a rematch of last seasons Sectional semifinals where Hayward beat Superior 7-5. The Spartans improve to 19-5 on the season.
This marked head coach Doug Trentor’s first Section title game, spending three seasons as a bench boss and seven total with the program.
Athletics Director Ella Olson said this is the first time the Superior girl’s have made the state tournament since 2006. They won it all in 2005.
The state semifinals are Thursday, March 2nd and the championship is Saturday, March 4th at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, Wisconsin.
