State Softball: Proctor & Moose Lake/Willow River fall in quarterfinals
The 2024 state softball tournament began at Caswell Park in North Mankato on Wednesday.
In the Class A quarterfinals, No. 5 Moose Lake/Willow River fell 10-0 to No. 4 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in five innings. A weather delay disrupted their game in the fifth inning by about an hour. The Knights scored four runs in the first and second innings to take a commanding 8-0 lead, then added two more in the fifth to enact the mercy rule.
The Rebels (13-10) will next play Kelliher/Northome in the consolation semifinal Thursday on Field 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Caswell Park.
In the Class AA quarterfinals, No. 4 Proctor fell 5-0 to No. 5 St. Agnes. The Aggies scored right away in the first inning, then not again until the fifth when they put up two runs. They added one a piece in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 5-0 victory.
The Rails (20-5) will next face Glencoe-Silver Lake in the consolation semifinals Thursday at 11:30 a.m. on Field 1 at Caswell Park. St. Agnes also beat Proctor in the 2023 state quarterfinals 2-1. The Rails finished that season as consolation champions.
Both the Rails and Rebels are making their third straight state tournament appearances.
