State Volleyball: Hermantown and Ely see seasons end in consolation semifinals
On Friday, both the Hermantown and Ely volleyball teams fell in their state consolation semifinals at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Hermantown girl’s volleyball dropped 3-0 to Mahtomedi in the Class AAA consolation semifinals. The Hawks fell in set one 25-22, set two 25-14, and set three 25-23. Kaili Malvey led Hermantown with 19 kills over three sets, followed by Louisa Tarnowski with 12 kills. Hermantown ends their 2024 season with a 24-7 record.
In the Class A consolation semifinals, Ely barely missed the mark, losing to New Life Academy of Woodbury 3-2. Ely took set one 25-18, set two 25-23; then fell in set three 25-13, set four 25-19, and set five 16-14. Marisa Michaelis led Ely with 20 kills over five sets, followed by Ryleigh Schellhas with 11 kills. Ely ends their 2024 season with a 28-5 record.
