Superior Softball set to turn page with new leadership
Superior High School is gearing up for their time on the diamond, in a year that’s a little different than others – especially at the head coaching position.
After almost two decades as the Spartans’ head coach, Mike Sather has passed on the duties to Bobbijean Gidley.
“I teach ninth grade here, and I get to see these girls every day, and I get to see them in a different setting rather than their sport,” said Gidley. So, I see them at school. I see them interacting with their peers. I know their strengths. I know what things we need to work at, and it’s fun because I can sit at practice or I can sit at school, and I can think of who are our leaders, you know, on and off the field.”
With a new head coach and a new season on the horizon, the Spartans who will take the field are also looking forward to some new leadership.
“I feel like it’s better, honestly. I like it more. I mean, she’s more familiar with all of us. Like, she knows us all individually very well, so, I think that’s also what helps us a lot,” said senior centerfielder Avery Visger.
“I feel like her knowing us individually, she’s pushing us harder individually too. Our new cardio workouts and just more. She’s really personalizing what we do,” added Senior utility player Keira Corbett.
The Spartans were supposed to have thrown their first pitch yesterday, but will wait for another chance to do so until April 8th against Cloquet.
