This week in Wisconsin swim teams went diving into their first practices.
The Superior girls are led by Bill Punyko, who has 47 years of coaching experience at various level, going into his 8th season at the helm of the Spartans. With a new season weeks away, Punyko is focusing on prepping incoming talents and growing its supportive culture.
“We got nine freshmen so we’re pretty new. I got a couple of kids that are coming back pretty strong. Kylie Peterson in particular was a conference champ in the 50 free last year. If we can put together a relay we can be competitive there. Being the new kids were learning a lot and starting at stretch, and it is all about growth and development over time,” said Punyko.
One of the Spartans leaders going into her senior season is Kylie Peterson. As a conference champ last year, she’s now reaching for higher goals in her final year.
“I’m just hoping to do good all around this year. I hope for individual events that I do really well in, and maybe I can make it to state, but that is kind of a long shot right now. Possibly I want to do that,” Peterson mentioned.
The Spartan’s season opener is on August 31st against Hibbing.
