The Challenge: UMD women’s basketball

WDIO's Alicia Tipcke and Spencer Pierce join the UMD women's basketball team at Romano Gym for dribbling, layup and shooting drills.

In WDIO’s series The Challenge Sports Director Alicia Tipcke and Spencer Pierce tryout for different Northland teams throughout the summer. In Episode 6, they hit the hardwood at Romano Gym to shoot hoops with the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s basketball team.

Junior guard Helen Chen and junior guard/small forward Maria Counts demonstrated techniques in dribbling, layups, and shooting. On of their challenges included the 32 shooting drills.

“You shoot a three, a mid-range jumper, and then a layup at each five spots. The three is worth three, the two is worth two, and then the layup is worth one. The end, you’ll shoot two free throws, but you can only shoot the second if you make the first. 32 is a perfect score,” Chen explained.

Did they make the cut?
