Three new sports opportunities for students at UW-Superior

One new varsity and two new club sports are coming to UW-Superior.

Women’s lacrosse will debut in time for the spring 2027 season, and a national search for a head coach is expected to begin this spring.

And men’s ice hockey and men’s soccer will begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. They will be the first club sports brought under the umbrella of Yellowjacket Athletics.

In both programs, student-athletes will be supported by head coaches and integrated into the support systems of the athletics department. Searches for the programs’ first head coaches will commence immediately.

The additions bring the total varsity sports at UW-Superior to 20.

“We are thrilled to expand our offerings to provide more, and new, opportunities for student-athletes. Expanding these programs appeals to the interest we receive from prospective students and the growing participation of these sports within our region,” UW-Superior director of athletics Nick Bursik said.
