Three Northland golf teams win Section titles
Three Northland golf teams, plus 12 individual local golfers, are off to the state stage after Section tournaments concluded Thursday.
In the Section 7AAA golf championships Thursday, Duluth East’s Abby Schintz (163 overall score) and Kyle Peterson (152) shot state qualifying marks both placing sixth. The Elk River boys and girls took first place as teams.
In Section 7AA, the Rock Ridge girls (736) and Cloquet boys (628) won as teams. Eight Northland individuals would also qualify, including International Falls’ Kelby Anderson who won the Section 7AA girls crown with a score of 154. Cloquet’s Lance Sayler took first place for the boys with a score of 151.
The remaining local 7AA girl qualifiers are Allie Lampa- Mesabi East, and Jayla Jones- Proctor/Esko. The remaining local 7AA boy qualifiers are Holden Evjen- Hermantown, Andrew Slatten- Hibbing, Jack Slattengren- Hermantown, Cade Peterson- Two Harbors, and Caiden Carpenter- Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin.
In Section 7A, the Northeast Range-Ely girls team took first place. North Woods’ Tori Olson and Moose Lake/Willow River’s Cullen Chuinard would qualify individually.
The state golf tournament runs June 11-12. The Class A tournament is at Pebble Creek, the Class AA stage will be the Ridges at Sand Creek, and the Class AAA stage will be the Bunker Hills Golf Club.
