UMD’s Dubinsky, Spicer find new homes out of transfer portal

UMD's Dubinsky, Spicer find new homes out of transfer portal

The college hockey transfer portal is staying busy, with two former University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey players finding new homes and another becoming the seventh Bulldog to enter the portal this offseason.

Aiden Dubinsky announced he’s heading across the border to become a Wisconsin Badger. Dubinsky had a career-high four goals as a junior in the 2024-2025 season. He appeared in all 36 games as a defenseman and averaged 21 minutes of playing time, good enough for third most on the team.

Cole Spicer announced he will now lace up his skates for Arizona State. This will mark his return to college hockey, after spending last year in the USHL with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, where he posted 30 points in 35 games (7 goals, 23 assists). Spicer skated with UMD for two seasons from 2022-2024 recording a total of eight goals and seven assists.

On Tuesday goaltender Klayton Knapp became the seventh Bulldog to enter the transfer portal. The freshman split time with fellow freshman netminder Adam Gajan during the 2024-25 season. Knapp started 14 games for UMD, going 6-6-2 with a .907 save percentage and 2.67 goals against average. This comes after third string goalie Zach Sandy entered the portal at the end of March.

The Bulldogs that have entered the portal so far are: Klayton Knapp (G), Zach Sandy (G), Matthew Perkins (F), Kyle Bettens (F), Jack Smith (F), Anthony Menghini (F), and Aiden Dubinsky (D).
