Two CSS throwers headed to NCAA DIII outdoor track and field championship
The NCAA Division III outdoor championship is coming up this weekend, and the Northland will have plenty of representation with Lily Beneke and Trent Beseth.
Both athletes were part of the indoor championship this past winter, but say the outdoors is a whole different beast.
“Honestly, the implements. Indoors we throw the weight, which is 20 pounds, outdoors is the hammer, which is 4 kilos, so it’s quite a big weight difference, but my training is mainly for hammer, so my indoor season has really helped for outdoor this year,” said Beneke.
“For shot put, I qualified pretty early in the season,” said Beseth. “I kind of expected myself to, so I qualified for indoor, but the disc was—I also expected myself to, but it was taking a while. I decided to finally throw a good one at the last meet. It was pretty sweet. I was super excited.”
Nationals are held in Myrtle Beach from Thursday to Saturday.
