UMD Athletics holding third annual clothing drive
The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is hosting it’s third annual clothing drive. It’s put on by their Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council, along with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Black Men Serving Excellence (BMSE), and Minnesota Power.
They are looking for winter clothes to help K-12 youth in the Duluth area. Among those spearheading the campaign are UMD men’s basketball fifth year star Joshua Brown, and women’s hockey captain Clara Van Wieren.
“It’s winter focused, so good coats, hats, gloves. And also new this year, so this is our third year doing the clothing drive. New this year, we actually have a money donation available online. We will take the money and go buy new winter clothing,” Brown explained.
“Doing it to directly benefit the Duluth community and having it come directly from us, coming from our families, coming from fans who come to games, I think that is so powerful,” Van Wieren added.
The drive runs through November 30. Items can be dropped off during home basketball or hockey games at Romano Gym and AMSOIL Arena, or 24/7 at the Sports and Health Center located near the ticket office of Romano Gym.
