The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football team returned to Malosky Stadium for the first official practice of the season on Monday.
The team landed fifth in the NSIC preseason coaches poll, along with two Bulldog graduate seniors – offensive lineman Treyvon Cahalan and defensive back Marcus Glodowski being named NSIC players to watch for this upcoming season.
“Really excited to get back out there with my guys, my O-line guys. You know, we like to consider ourselves to be someone that this team can lean on, be the rock of this team. Coach Endsley has done a great job of getting us right and ready all offseason,” said Cahalan.
“Just on the defensive side of the ball I’m super excited with our defensive back group. Being here for quite a while, watching these young guys grow and then bringing in a couple of guys that we think can make a difference on the field. I think it’s going to be a blast out there on defense,” added Glodowski.
Cahalan will be a captain this year and will anchor the team at the center position, he has 30 games under his belt at this point.
Glodowski, who is also a captain recorded 63 career tackles, including 34 solo tackles, in 30 games played in a Bulldog sweater.
“Some of the question marks coming in is are your transfers, your new guys, your freshmen, just athletically whether or not those guys are exactly what we’re going to look for heading into the fall. Then the other questions as we build through fall camp is starting to develop your depth chart and find out who your ones, your twos, your threes are and where your competitive positions are going to be here throughout fall camp,” continued head coach Curt Wiese.
The Bulldogs begin thier season August 31st against Northern Michigan at 6:00p.m. in front of the home town crowd.
“We have a great group of core guys coming back that have played a lot of football for us. Those guys are our captains obviously. But to bring everybody together this fall camp is going to be our main focus,” Wiese concluded.
