UMD football gearing up for week one battle
Monday marked just three days away from the UMD football season kicking off in what should be one of the best seasons in the programs history. Head coach Curt Wiese and his players are more than excited.
“Our team has a little bit different level of excitement this week,” said Wiese. “They’re ready to get on the bus on Wednesday afternoon, but have a couple more days of work here before that happens. You add in school this week, with the start of school and classes. We’re trying to focus when they’re here for a couple hours on football, making sure we’re prepared as we can be for this Thursday night.”
“I think it’s always been a staple to not try to do the stupid things and to play our brand of football and play with a calm head,” said Daniel Mitchell, a fifth year running back. “Don’t get too high on your highs. Don’t get too low on your lows. You got to stay at that middle ground. Every time you stay at that middle ground, good things are always going to happen. So we’ve kept that same sentiment.”
The Bulldogs hit the road and head to Marquette, Michigan to take on Northern Michigan for game one of the 2024 campaign, with kickoff at 5 p.m.
