University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football offensive lineman Brent Laing this weekend signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets.
“The Jets were right fit for me, they ran a similar offensive style that I would fit well in and they’re needing guys in O-line. A lot of the other teams that I talked with ended up drafting a lot of O-linemen during the draft. So that was good not to go there just because it would have been a little bit hard to make that team,” said Laing on Monday.
While tight end Zach Ojile stays close to home and has received an invite to the rookie mini-camp for the Minnesota Vikings.
“I’m super excited just just for the opportunity and obviously the goal is to show up, compete my butt off, and then hopefully earn another opportunity. I’m super thrilled to have an opportunity with the hometown team,” added Ojile.
Laing was the first ever Bulldog to be invited to the NFL scouting combine while also serving as team captain.
Along with Ojile who was also named to the 2022 NSIC first-team all-conference this past year.
Laing is the first UMD football player to be signed as an undrafted free agent since 2014’s Jeremy Reierson.
