UMD Hughes and several teammates are skating in the IIHF Women’s World Championship

On Wednesday, UMD’s Gabbie Hughes made her debut with the U.S. National team as she was one of 25 players selected to represent the U.S. at the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship from April 5-16 in Brampton, Ontario. Hughes ranks 5th all-time on the UMD scoring board with 214 career points in 165 games. She also owns the third-place spot in most assists in program history with 133 assists.
Hughes is not the only UMD hockey player participating in the women’s championship game. Three other members of the UMD women’s hockey team will be playing for other teams in the tournament. Graduate goaltender Emma Soderberg will be playing for team Sweden, graduate goaltender Blanka Skodava will be playing for the Czech Republic’s team, and junior defenseman Nina Jobst-Smith will be playing for team Germany.
