UMD kicker Curtis Cox receives Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nomination
University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football’s Curtis Cox has been named a 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee.
Cox, a graduate student kicker, received his nomination for a bone marrow donation. In the spring of 2023, Cox participated in UMD’s Be the Match program, where he discovered he had matched with a two-year-old boy. Cox was flown out to Washington D.C. where he underwent the bone marrow extraction, and the next day, the two-year-old received the infusion.
There are 178 nominees for this year’s Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, and nominees are selected from FBS, FCS, Divisions II and III, and the NAIA. The team recognizes college football athletes for their commitment to community service off the field. Each nominee must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group and maintain a strong academic standing.
The final selection for the team will be announced in September and will include 23 recipients. There will be 11 players from the NCAA FBS; 11 players from the NCAA FCS, Divisions II and III, and NAIA; and one honorary head coach.
