UMD men’s hockey’s 2023-2024 campaign comes to a close in Denver
In Denver on Saturday, the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team fell 5-2 to the third ranked University of Denver in game two of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) tournament to end their season. UMD lost game one of their best-of-three series with the Pioneers Friday 4-0.
After a scoreless first period, the Pioneers scored three goals in the second period to lead 3-0. Finally in the third period, Luke Loheit and Kyle Bettens scored for UMD to come within one. However, Denver scored two empty netters to secure the 5-2 victory.
In net, UMD goaltender Matthew Thiessen made 27 saves, while Denver’s Matt Davis made 28 saves.
UMD finishes their season with a 12-20-5 record.
